Kastelbergschule

The Kastelbergschule is located in the southwest of Germany. A modern school where students learn together in mixed groups which allows to learn from each other. They aim for different degrees. Students will finish school after class 10 in order to begin an apprenticeship; others will continue school to reach the German Abitur which allows them to go to university. Our school includes also handicapped students.

25 % of our pupils have a foreign cultural background. Their parents or grandparents moved to Germany years ago to find work in our country. In the last three years the number of refugees increased.  Some of them without any German language skills, the others with only little German language skills. The most important aim for us is to facilitate learning for all of our students on their individual levels and to help find their place in our culture and society. This is also the reason why we take place in the HIMIS project. We want to facilitate learning from other cultures,  tolerance and respect for each other. HIMIS project is the chance to develop new ideas for inclusion and the project is an opportunity also for teachers to learn from each other. That is the future for an increasingly globalized world, and we as well as our students will be part of it.

Already a comprehensive university at its founding in 1457, the University of Freiburg still offers undergraduate and graduate studies as well as professorial qualifications in all important disciplines today: the humanities, natural and engineering sciences, medicine, law, and theology. This diversity also provides an ideal environment for innovative interdisciplinary studies. 7000 academic staff teach more than 25,000 students.

Since the mid 1990s the Heritage Interpretation group at the Department of Geography has been researching best practices in how to facilitate deeper understanding of heritage assets, for example at museums, heritage sites and protected areas. This combines special communication techniques tailored for different visitor segments. Interpretation is more than mere factual information. Essentially, it is the art of embedding exhibits, monuments, historic characters and events or natural assets into meaningful and relevant contexts. The group was among the first in Germany to further develop the interpretive approach, which originated in America’s national parks, for various European target audiences.

Our major goals are to create conditions for comprehensive education and at the same time to help our students reach their full potential and make a successful transition to adulthood and the world of further and higher education, training or work. At Zespół Szkół nr 6 we aim to enable each student to communicate and interact effectively with others and the world around them, value themselves and their own achievements and accept and show tolerance of others, participate in and contribute to the wider social community and last but not least lead a safe, happy and fulfilling lifestyle.
